The Murder House A mysterious mansion hidden in the Medium

Richard Neutra built the main house in 1958 for the Loring family. It was purchased by Escher GuneWarden, who hired Ehrlich to design a guest house and art gallery. Five years later, the Nassau County legislature granted the Friends of the Sands Point Preserve the authority to exclusively manage and plan the future uses of this beautiful 216-acre park and preserve. In 2016, the organization was renamed the Sands Point Preserve Conservancy, Inc. Fabulous food and impeccable service match the splendor of the venue.

SPECIAL EVENT

Democrats say local elections should coincide with gubernatorial and presidential contests when turnout is highest. Democrats historically have better turnout during gubernatorial and, particularly, presidential years. Every baby is deserving of a stable and loving home. Every mother deserves the chance to give her child a good beginning, a warm bed and a healthy life. MOMMAS House makes it possible for a young mother to raise her baby in a caring and supportive environment while she works toward reaching her full potential and develops in her role as a mother.

The Luxurious and Historical Gold Coast

I’m a fairly particular person, and I immediately recognized and appreciated Moe’s attention to detail. Moe knew just how to bring our own individual personalities shine through every selection and detail. Both Moe and Emily responded to every email and call within an impressively quick timeframe, and always offered to help make everything easier for us and our families. We had plenty of questions (big and small) and they always always aimed to please. Moe lead us through every option and helped us bring in additional ways to really make the night about us. From recommendations on a band and bringing in additional furniture, to the cordial selection for our espresso bar, to the placement of the pool table for our after party, he made everything so special.

Timeline of the Estate

The walnut-paneled Library was copied from the palace of King James I, and relief portraits of literary figures still decorate its plaster ceiling. The Billiard Room originally featured a gold leaf ceiling, hand-tooled leather wall coverings, and carved oak woodwork from a 17th-Century Spanish palace. Inside the foyer, the imposing vaulted ceiling illustrates the extraordinary lifestyle of the roaring 1920s and 1930s. The foyer’s magnificent Wurlitzer Opus 445 Theatre Organ is fully restored. The massive pipes that are visible on the foyer walls are only decorative – the music reverberates through strategically designed openings in the floors. And Jan B. Woods Residence, 425 Upper Mesa Road, Santa Monica CA.

Spierer is a Venice Beach-based real estate developer. Sold in 2009 to Hos Ocean Front Walk LLC. One of the best aspects of Palm Court is that it fully opens up the first floor – you can see all the way to the rear of the house. To my knowledge, no photographs exist of its use as a garden.

Luxurious bedrooms and newly renovated marble bathrooms complement the grand scale of this mansion. The summer living room opens to the lush Rose Garden with fountains and the terrace overlooking the beach and the Long Island Sound. Hempstead House is one of the four mansions that constitutes the Guggenheim Estate, located in Sands Point. Construction of the mansion was started by Howard Gould, son of the railroad tycoon Jay Gould in 1912. Gould built two castle-like buildings, the main house called Hempstead House, and the smaller house known as Castle Gould. The other two mansions are called Mille Fleur and Falaise.

Oyster Bay: A Golden Gem

The 50,000-square-foot castle, designed and built in 1912, has a long and fascinating history. Housing outside of Marrakech and Ouarzazate, Morocco. Over a two-year period from 1970 to 1971, Ehrlich primarily worked on a project known as Habitat Rural, which involved planning a rural village designed to rehouse residents ousted by the construction of dams. Through these studies he came up with proposals for rural villages, one located 30 to 40 miles outside of Marrakech, the other in Ouarzazate on the south side of the High Atlas Mountains. Ehrlich learned finally in 2017 that they had in fact been built.

The Wurlitzer is played by Alan Lush for various events held in the mansion. Intriguingly, the initial plan called for a castle that would be the replica of Kilkenny Castle in Ireland. However, the Gould was displeased with the design so it was decided that another house would be built as the main living quarters. After the completion of the house, the estate was sold to Daniel Guggenheim, at which point the name of the main house was changed to Hempstead House. Hempstead House at Sands Point Preserve is a unique Gatsby-era estate.

About the Mansion

The rooms of Hempstead House and Castle Gould are spectacular settings for bar/bat mitzvahs, storybook sweet sixteens, anniversary parties and even proms. Following her husband’s death, Florence no longer wanted to live in the house. She built a smaller house on the property for herself, and in 1940, she opened Hempstead House to refugee children from Europe ranging in age from 13 months to 10 years old.

Financier Howard Gould, son of railroad robber baron Jay Gould, created the estate by purchasing the undeveloped land in 1900 and 1901. Castle Gould, a massive 100,000-square-foot medieval castle, modeled after Ireland’s Kilkenny Castle, was completed in 1902. It was an attempt to please his wife, actress Katherine Clemmons. But she was not pleased, so he built a second mansion across the property, the Tudor-style home, Hempstead House – a more intimate 50,000-square-foot mansion with a 60-foot-tall entry foyer. Sadly, their marriage ended in a divorce that was played out in the press with Gould accusing Clemmons of having an affair with William F. Cody (known in Old West lore as Buffalo Bill). Not only is the space at Hempstead House incredible, the team is as well.

By the mid-’20s, they had eight grandchildren. The estate provided everything for the extended Guggenheim family, who spent much of their time there. Daniel died at Hempstead House on the morning of Sept. 28, 1930, surrounded by his wife and children. Hempstead House is also available for private events and is often selected for film and television productions – a vital source of revenue for the Conservancy.

This 50,000-square-foot three-story mansion is 225 feet long and 135 feet wide. It has 40 rooms, including a 60-foot-tall entry foyer. The first and second floors of the Hempstead House measure over 1.5 acres. The Conservancy provides year-round educational and cultural programs, seasonal celebrations, mansion tours, fitness activities as well as private/corporate event services and film/TV location facilities. Hempstead House is the embodiment of Gold Coast opulence.

They are kind, patient, and utterly devoted to making your special occasion unforgettable. Our wedding was absolutely perfect, and we could not have done it without Emily, Mo, their flawless team, and the unparalleled Hempstead House. This cliff-side French Norman-style mansion was the residence of Captain Harry F. Guggenheim and his wife, Alicia Patterson, founder of Newsday. Explore the exquisite artwork, antiques, and furnishings inside one of the most inviting mansions on the Gold Coast.

Suffolk County spokesman Mike Martino declined to comment on the pending legislation, but said the attorneys will be paid $700 per hour, which will be split among the plaintiffs. Hempstead Town spokesman Brian Devine called the law change “an attempt by the governor to wrest local control of government" from town residents. Republicans statewide have criticized the change, saying voters will ignore local issues when local elections coincide with federal and state elections.

Harry built his home in the style of a French-Norman manor house, atop the bluffs overlooking the Long Island Sound, and named it Falaise, meaning “cliff” in French. Although they later divorced, Falaise remained Harry’s summer home, and his close friend Charles Lindbergh was a frequent visitor. Falaise has been preserved much as it was when Harry and his third wife, Newsday founder Alicia Patterson, were in residence.
